Music in Mind offers innovative performance projects, workshops and a range of services that use music and the arts to promote health awareness, education and community cohesion. 

 

  • Music in Mind in health believes in the power of music to transform lives, to stimulate creative thinking and to promote and increase public awareness around health and well being. 

 

  • Music In Mind in the community explores the positive role that music can play in society. Projects, workshops and performances aim to support and educate the public about issues of heritage, belonging and identity.

 

  • Music In Mind in education promotes the benefits of music in learning and teaching. We offer a range of services for schools and colleges including staff CPD, cross – curricular projects and especially designed concert/lectures to inspire and stimulate the imagination.

We promote the latest scientific research into the effects of music and the arts on brain functioning and to promote the unique power of the arts to improve everyone's quality of life from stimulating creative thinking in children to raising awareness around important public issues such as dementia.

 


BOARD OF TRUSTEES

ALAN PENTON - Chair of Trustees

Alan completed over thirty years service in the UK fire and rescue service in a wide range of roles up to strategic management level. He is the Managing Director of Belvidere Park Consultants, whose activities focus on Risk Management and Health Creation.

He continues to provide risk management services to both private and public sector organisations particularly in the area of fire safety. He is also an active member of the National Fire Cadet Board, Executive Team of the National Fire Chiefs Council.

As Fellow of the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, Healthier Places, Healthy Lives Programme,
he provided extensive experience, passion, support and leadership of a prevention based approach to the inequality challenges in social and health & wellbeing. His experiences on the programme led to him being invited to become a volunteer member of the National Executive of the New NHS Alliance as the Fire and Rescue Service Special Advisor.

DENISE WYLLIE

Denise was raised in the Scottish Borders prior to heading to Edinburgh to study Biochemistry at university. From there she joined The Whitbread Beer comply, as their first female graduate brewer. A few years later she headed to the City and took a role with Citibank in their Foreign Exchange Trading function, working in Operations across the bank’s European offices on numerous change management projects.

Her career then moved to Goldman Sachs where she remained for 27 years, 13 as a partner of the firm. She spent much of her career managing operations across all of the firms trading and investing businesses. This included global roles managing teams of up to 5000 people, large budgets and being responsible for managing implementation of the strategy of the firm, including the technology investments. Her expertise is in operational risk management, strategy execution, people management and crisis management. Her final role was as COO of the Asia Pacific businesses, based in Hong Kong, where she worked with other senior management globally and in the region to build the firm’s Asia footprint with a particular focus on implementing the firm’s growth strategy in China.

Denise has been a board member of a number of companies including a mining company in Columbia, London Clearing House ( part of the London Stock Exchange Group ), Goldman Sachs Asset Management International, Goldman Sachs Asia, Goldman Sachs Japan, Goldman Sachs Asia Bank where she was also CEO.

She has also been involved with numerous charities.

In retirement Denise is enjoying travel, her horses, sports including boxing, riding and skiing as well as time with family and friends.

DR. ADE TAIWO

Ade is a partner in a General practice in Liverpool. He is passionate about quality in healthcare within the NHS. he is a member of the Royal college of general practitioners.

In his spare time Ade enjoys squash and is an active member of the prestigious Northern Club in Crosby, Liverpool. He is married with three children.

 

MARK NANKIVELL

Mark is a director, Marine and Trade of Stormonth Shipping Ltd. Mark has worked in shipping since 1979 joining Goldman Sachs in 1993 before leaving to work for Morgan Stanley in 2003 to set up a shipping business. He joined Barclays Bank plc in 2008. After the bank withdrew from physical oil trading in 2013 mark established Stormonth Shipping Ltd to continue his relationship with the industry.

Mark's professional experience is highly commercial having been a freight trader, charter, operator and ship owner. Mark successfully passed his MA equivalent level 7 Diploma in Corporate Governance in October 2016.

In 2007 Mark successfully led a team of climbers on the Six peak challenge in support of Water Aid winning the coveted 'Scafell Pike' trophy for most money raised. Fund raising for Water Aid continued until 2011 raising a total sum of £250,000 for the charity. Mark's non shipping interests include rugby, shooting, cycling, history and reading books in the sun at his villa near Barcelona with his wife, daughter and four dogs.

 

MARK MURRAY

Mark has been a Chartered Accountant for over 20 Years and immediately after qualifying worked in Practice for 5 years including 3 years as an Audit Manager at Grant Thornton.

Since moving into Industry he has held numerous roles the most significant being for 8 years as the European Finance Manager for Colormatrix Europe Ltd, an international Manufacturing Company during a period when annual turnover grew from £20m to over £50m and operations were established in The Netherlands, Hong Kong, China and Russia.

Mark is currently working as the Finance Director for a manufacturing group in the North West which incorporates 4 trading companies, implementing new systems and procedures to create a structure that will enable the business to grow significantly and deliver shareholder returns.
